Good News and Bad News
First, the bad news. Despite the enthusiastic turnout of so many of our readers (far more than we ever expected), we have made the decision to suspend indefinitely the subscription Efficient Frontier. The reason? Securities regulations. Since announcing the subscription concept, while potential subscribers steadily increased, the legal and compliance issues multiplied. Truth be told, we enjoy writing about portfolio theory and asset allocation far more than dealing with regulatory matters. We finally had to admit we were tired of focusing on the latter, with or without the capable assistance of attorneys.
As to the obvious: Everyone who promptly signed up will be equally promptly receiving a refund check or a credit back on his credit card. In recent times, as we were seriously questioning the viability of this once-appealing idea, we held off on processing any credit-card charges or depositing individual checks. The earliest birds will in fact get a new check from us or a credit-card refund; the rest of you will see your own voided check via return mail or a cancelled credit-card charge.
The good news for all who would be happy to read Efficient Frontier on the Web site at no costa Spring 2001 issue will appear here, right on schedule, just as before.
Stay tuned, and thank you one and all for the enthusiastic comments, persistent-but-futile attempts to subscribe despite various state restrictions, and for the unique, special ways you demonstrated that you appreciate the information in Efficient Frontier.
